Silvesterklaus

Silvesterklaus - celebrating the New Year according to the Julian calendar.

Mum and our neighbour, Annemarie, went to the Swiss-German part to catch this old, old, old tradition. 

Yes, these men were dressed up in scary costumes (the Ugly), or with nature (like Christmas trees - the Pretty-Ugly). Unfortunately we did not see any Beautiful men as the weather was not very good (it was snowing).

The Beautiful usually have very unusual and elaborate headgear.

They also walked around the lovely town of St Gallen.

There is a famous Abbey library in St Gallen (very old, loads of old manuscripts), It was very incredible to see, and so well kept.

Seeing the new year in with friends.

We had fabulous weather up in the mountains.

Though it was still cold, so much so that the lake was frozen and we could ice-skate on it.
